Rotary indexing system for connector testing

Problem

To meet the increasing demands on quality assurance, a company has ordered the development of a test system for electric motor connection cables. The customer’s requirements focus on faster cycle times and increased employee efficiency.

The test system should not only ensure the internal wiring, but also monitor the dimensional accuracy of the connectors. Another important aspect is determining the electrical safety of the tested connection cables which plays a key role in the overall functionality and safety of the electric motors. Process-reliable test documentation is essential to ensure seamless monitoring of production and enable traceability.

Answer

A customised test system with a rotary indexing layout and interchangeable holders for different product and connector types.

Operation is simple and intuitive. Thanks to the ergonomic one-hand operation, fast and uninterrupted work is possible. Jobs are started by scanning with a hand-held scanner and the automatic test start is initiated by inserting the test specimen.

The system performs all required measurements, including

  • Height measurement on the housing
  • Short-circuit and connection test
  • Protective conductor measurement
  • Dielectric strength test (3.75 kV, max. 5 kV possible)
  • Insulation measurement with max. 1kV and 200 GOhm

The system also features a visual inspection of cable colours, attachments and contours. Labelling is performed by laser with read-back of the lasered data matrix code.

The automatic generation and archiving of test logs ensure seamless documentation. Safety equipment such as a safety enclosure with light curtain and emission-free workstations with fume extraction ensure optimum working conditions.

It goes without saying that our products comply with the applicable regulations such as the Machinery Directive (EC) 2023/1230 and are CE marked.
